Gwen goes shopping, Azima tags along…

Vintage fashion has a two-fold advantage: good for the wallet and great for the environment. Wearable pieces from yesteryear won’t require swiping your credit card, nor will there be any wasted resources that would have otherwise been spent in the making of brand new garments from scratch…

Hombakazi Vintage Cabin is an ideal location to score vintage fashion finds in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. “Hombakazi” means stylish and ladylike in Xhosa – a South African language – hence, you’re bound to find pieces that are a unique blend of modern and past fashion trends.

The beautiful boutique owner, Mbukwashe, a fashion stylist and self-proclaimed “fashion hunter” ensures that her store is constantly updated with fresh pieces that speak to what her clients are seeking (a different take on the concept ‘fast fashion’). Her passion for variety is evident in all aspects of the store, from the window display to her chic look of the day.

Gwen and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to shop for pieces that would add to our wardrobe….

Like this A-line, midi prom skirt in a yellow gold hue (ZAR 380) that can be worn at either a formal occasion or to work or even casually if you feel like being glam (’cause you can)…DSC_6712

Or this wide-legged, floaty trousers with chiffon detail in black (ZAR 220) which is also versatile to wear either casual or formal…DSC_6827

DSC_6829We also found this beautiful midi pencil dress with ruffle detail at the sleeves (ZAR 380). This skirt/dress length first became popular in the 1940’s (talk about a throwback)…DSC_6891

And this cute two-piece shorts and top in floral print (ZAR 250) paired with a bright accessory such as the orange neckpiece (ZAR 75) makes for a great relaxed ensemble to wear out to the beach or even shopping…DSC_6940

Be sure to pop in to the store, which is located in Westbourne Road (Port Elizabeth), if you’re in the area…and be delighted!DSC_7042
