Fashion Scrapbook Feb 16

The Big Four Fashion weeks took place within the month of February and these collections from AW16 caught my eye… Chloe  Pieces in the Chloe AW16 collection were abounding in chiffon and wool fabric that resembles an effortless layered look.   Balmain Balmain’s AW16 collection stays true to the signature style that Olivier Rousteing has become known for: the unison of structure and detail. A few … Continue reading Fashion Scrapbook Feb 16

South African Fashion Week: Autumn/Winter Collection 2016

This time of year, South African Fashion Week showcases the Autumn/Winter fashion for ’16. I got to see the collections of a few South African fashion designers’, namely “Sies!”, “Mantsho” and “Sober”. Here are my impressions… Sies! SAFW: Thabo Makhetha AW16 Collection

The upbeat, African music in the background also complemented items showcased. The crowd loved it too, exclaiming at each … Continue reading SAFW: Thabo Makhetha AW16 Collection

Q&A with Thabo Makhetha

Thabo Makhetha is driven, this is evident in her persona and seeps through to her surroundings…from the look, feel and quality of her creations, to the accolades she’s received since the start of her label, e.g. one of Nelson Mandela Bay’s top 40 under 40, to being featured in magazine, to her designs worn at Louis Vuitton Fashion week in Paris by the Elle editor, … Continue reading Q&A with Thabo Makhetha

Ties have an interesting origin; it was first used as a badge of honour. The first Chinese emperor was buried with a life sized, terracotta replica … Continue reading “Save the Tie, Save a Child” Fashion Show

What defines a trendsetter?

When I think of sartorial trendsetters internationally and locally, names like Kate Middleton, Thandiswa Mazwai and Zolani Mahola, come to mind. They have succeeded in adding their unique ‘flavour’ to the realm in which they find themselves.  People all around the world admire trendsetters and try to emulate their uber-stylish looks.
